Nine persons were killed when twelve coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on January 13. 36 others are undergoing treatment with a few are in critical condition, as per reports. On January 14, Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the accident site for inspection. He was seen examining the undercarriage and the braking system of the locomotive. Meanwhile, more than 200 personnel of the Border Security Force, are continuing their rescue operations. Survivors who escaped unscathed, were put on a rescue train to Guwahati.
