Adama Traore has neither the "end product" nor defensive reliability to warrant a big transfer to either Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea.

That's according to former England international-turned-pundit Danny Mills, who suggested the winger needs to find more consistency before he could justify getting a place in the Spurs team.

Traore has been linked with moves to Tottenham, Chelsea and even his former club Barcelona as he enters the final 18 months of his contract with the West midlands outfit.

Wolves are willing to listen to offers for the Spain international this month after fruitless contract negotiations in the last two seasons.

Spurs emerged as frontrunners for his signature after reports claimed that Antonio Conte wants to convert Traore into a right wingback, while one imagines Thomas Tuchel might do the same were he to sign for the Blues.

Ex-Leeds United and Man City fullback Mills is "not convinced" he could perform the role to the level required for a top six club.

“I’ve not seen enough that makes you think he will be reliable in that position," Mills told Football Insider.

“Last season his numbers were poor. Go back two or three seasons it was all about his end product not being good enough and it probably wasn’t.

“The season after that he changed that, his end product was much better. Last season it dipped off massively and it didn’t happen for him.

Should Wolves sell Adama Traore? Have your say in the comments below

“He’s on the bench a lot of the time. There’s a reason you are on the bench, that’s what you have to look at. Why’s he on the bench week in, week out? If he’s not quite good enough to get in the Wolves team…”

He added: “Yes, he’s got potential but he needs to find that consistency before he gets in that Tottenham side.

“Could you rely on him defensively? I’m not convinced you could in that wing-back position.”

In his latest comments on the Traore situation, manager Bruno Lage said that Wolves have not received any bids for the player and he would prefer not to sell him.

“In my mind, yes, nothing changes,” he said. “But this is football. The club has talked with Adama before, he has one year left on his contract, and I need to understand that.

“It’s not just about Adama, if it’s good for the club and the player, we need to find a solution.

"For now, I want to keep the four wingers I have.”
