I think someone needs to get the KFC Colonel on the phone because Mel Gibson is out here stealing his schtick. RLJE Films is here to liven up everyone’s Friday with the first trailer and key art for Last Looks, an upcoming action-comedy starring Mel Gibson, Charlie Hunnam, and Morena Baccarin.

The Last Looks trailer comes loaded with plenty of laughs as we watch Hunnam’s Charlie Waldo get begrudgingly pulled into a murder mystery involving Gibson’s Southern-fried Alistair Pinch, an eccentric actor with a few secrets hidden up his sleeve.

Directed by Tim Kirkby (Fleabag, Veep, Don’t Forget the Driver), Last Looks is based on the L.A. detective novel series by author Howard Michael Gould, who also adapted the story for Kirkby’s film. Also starring in Last Looks are stars Lucy Fry, Dominic Monaghan, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Clancy Brown, and Rupert Friend.

Per RLJE Films, here is the official synopsis for Last Looks:

Charlie Waldo (Charlie Hunnam) is an ex-LAPD superstar who left the force and now lives a life of simplicity and solitude deep in the woods. Alistair Pinch (Mel Gibson) is an eccentric actor who spends his days drunk on the set of his TV show. When Pinch’s wife is found dead, he is the prime suspect and Waldo is convinced to come out of retirement to investigate what happened. The case finds Waldo contending with gangsters, Hollywood executives, and pre-school teachers, all in pursuit of clearing Pinch’s name … or confirming his guilt.

In addition to the Last Looks trailer, RLJE Films also shared a vibrant-looking poster for the upcoming film:

What do you think of the Last Looks trailer? It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen Gibson executing a comedic role, and after the past two years, I think Hunnam’s Charlie Waldo’s move to get off the grid is a novel idea. If the murder mystery is as solid as the on-screen chemistry between Gibson and Hunnam, we could be in for a real treat when last Looks arrives in theaters, On Demand, and Digital on February 4, 2022.
