NOIDA: The number of Covid patients admitted to hospitals in the twin cities of Noida and Ghaziabad are increasing by the day, but many of them are from other districts, officials have said.
According to the officials, about 125-150 Covid patients are currently admitted to government and private facilities in Noida. Of them, about 40 are from other districts.
In Ghaziabad, about 120 patients are undergoing hospital treatment at present. Of them, around 80 are from elsewhere.
The officials said they were still collating data on the number of patients in private hospitals. Ghaziabad chief medical officer Bhavtosh Shankhdhar said he had written to the private facilities for details on the number of patients from other districts and states.
“Apart from personal details, the department has also sought information on the health of the patients. We should know if they needed oxygen therapy or ICU admission,” the CMO added.
Most of these patients are in two hospitals in the trans-Hindon region. One of them is Yashoda Hospital in Kaushambi, where about 35 patients are being treated at the moment, including those from other states and districts such as Delhi, Baghpat, Meerut and Bijnor.
However, most of the patients have mild symptoms. Doctors said the patients had symptoms like cold, cough, sore throat, breathlessness, and vomiting along with a low oxygen saturation level.

In Noida too, the health department is in the process of collecting the data of such patients. Sources said most of the patients from other districts were in private facilities.
At the Noida Covid Hospital, a dedicated government facility, 30 patients are currently being treated. Medical superintendent Dr Tritya Saxena said all of them were residents of Noida. The doctor said four of the patients were in ICU because of comorbidities.
At Sharda Hospital, only two patients are admitted at present. Dr Ajit Kumar of the hospital said, “Though we are getting around 40-60 patients daily, only two patients are admitted as of now. While people with no or mild symptoms are being given medicines and advised home isolation, the ones with more severe health complications are being admitted.”
The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida have around 60 patients at the moment, including some from adjoining district like Baghpat, Bijnor and Meerut. Dr Rakesh Gupta, the hospital director, said, “The situation is under control as there is no dearth of beds.”
None of the districts has reported any Covid-related death so far in the current phase of the pandemic.
