Men's Tennis January 11, 2022
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The fourth-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team commences its 2022 dual slate Wednesday with a home doubleheader against the Buccaneers of ETSU. The season-opening match is slated for 10 a.m. ET, while the day's second match is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET. Both matches will take place inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center, with fans being permitted.

The Vols are looking to build on their success seen in 2021, after finishing the dual season with a 28-4 overall record, winning the SEC Tournament title and advancing to the semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

Live stats will be provided by UTsports.com and can be found here.

Tennis parking for spectators is located in SC40 at the Kingston Pike Building. Additional parking information can be found here.

SCOUTING ETSU
The Vols hold a 39-3 series lead over the Buccaneers and have won the previous 39 meetings. After meeting in 12 consecutive seasons from 2000-2011, Wednesday will mark just the third and fourth meetings since then. A victory would extend Tennessee's longest win streak over a single opponent in program history to 40.

Last season, the Big Orange cruised past ETSU in the Vols' third dual match of the year, 7-0, as the Buccaneers went on to finish the season with a record of 13-8 (7-0 SoCon) and were 6-7 in road matches.

DOUBLES U
Reigning NCAA Doubles National Champions Pat Harper and Adam Walton will look to defend their crown this season as the Vols boast talent across the board on the doubles courts this spring.

Newcomers Shunsuke Mitsui and Emile Hudd burst onto the scene this fall, recording an 11-1 record together, advancing to the doubles semifinal round at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa and earning a national ranking of No. 6 in the ITA's final fall rankings.

FIVE NEWCOMERS
The Vols welcome five newcomers to the 2022 squad, three by way of transfer and two freshmen. Conor Gannon and Mitsui serve as UT's pair of freshmen, while transfers Blaise Bicknell (Florida), Angel Diaz (UT Arlington) and Hudd (Oklahoma St.) each traded their previous shade of orange for UT orange this offseason.

MILESTONE IN SIGHT FOR AUSSIE
In October, Walton earned his 100th career singles win to become the 11th-ever Vol to reach the century mark in career singles triumphs. Walton stands just 17 doubles victories away from 100, which would make him the sixth Vol in program history to accrue 100 career doubles and singles wins.

UP NEXT
Tennessee will make its first road trip of the season as it travels to the Lone Star State to battle fifth-ranked TCU Sunday afternoon. First serve from Fort Worth is set for 1 p.m. ET.
