Manchester United have sent an email to fans after discriminatory language was aimed at a Wolves player in relation to their height.

The incident happened during Wolves 1-0 victory at Old Trafford earlier this month.

A complaint was made to United after the match, although the club were unable to identify for the culprit.

"Thank you for your attendance at the Premier League fixture between Man Utd and Wolverhampton Wanderers on 3rd January 2022," wrote the Red Devils.

"The club have been made aware that a section of the crowd at this fixture used discriminatory language that was directed towards a Wolverhampton Wanderers player in relation to his height.

"Man Utd is fully committed to ensuring that any form of discriminatory abuse and/or offensive behaviour is eliminated and appropriate action may be taken against any individuals that are identified as participating in discriminatory and/or offensive chanting or behaviour.

"In the event that you should witness this type of prohibited discriminatory or offensive behaviour please ensure you report this."

United launched their SEE RED campaign last April, which aims to confront all forms of discrimination in football.

"We are proud that players of all ethnicities, religions and nationalities have pulled on the Man Utd jersey over the years," said United CEO Richard Arnold.

"We challenge our fans, and indeed fans of every club, to watch this and think about their own favourite memories, their top teams and their most celebrated players.

"How different would those memories be without the diversity of some of the best players in the world who have graced our game and our club?

"Sadly, footballers across the country continue to receive abuse online, seemingly without fear of censure. United has been, and always will be, a club for all.

"We do not believe real fans are racist and today, we call on those fans to join us in the battle against discrimination."

The news comes just a week after Wiltshire Police announced their were investigating allegations of racist abuse directed at Ashley Cole during the FA Cup tie between Swindon Town and Manchester City.

Cole was part of ITV Sport's punditry team for the game, as Swindon owner Clem Morfuni offered an apology to the Chelsea legend.

"We are absolutely saddened and deeply disgusted by this, and we cannot stress strongly enough that racial abuse of any kind will not be tolerated by Swindon Town FC," said Morfuni.

"Racism has no place in the world, and it is incredibly heartbreaking that this still has a place in our game. We are currently working with Wiltshire Police on gathering evidence, but those responsible will be punished accordingly.

"On behalf of everyone at Swindon Town FC, we send out our heartfelt apologies to Ashley Cole, and it is with our deepest regret that you had to experience that last night.

"Those few individuals do not represent Swindon Town and will not be welcome at the County Ground."

A day later at The Den, homophobic chants were allegedly aimed at Conor Gallagher during Crystal Palace's cup victory against Millwall.

"Millwall Football Club has a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of discrimination and will investigate any incident of alleged abuse accordingly," said a Millwall spokesperson.

"As is club policy, any individual found guilty of discriminatory abuse is issued with an immediate lifetime ban."
