Nagpur, Bhandara districts achieve more than 100% first dose target

Nagpur, Bhandara districts achieve more than 100% first dose target
Nagpur: Nagpur and Bhandara districts have achieved more than 100% of their first dose Covid vaccination coverage for 18+ beneficiaries. The milestone came in the last couple of days even as the region is grappling with the onset of third Covid wave.
Wardha and Gondia are short by 3,000 and 6,900, respectively, to reach their first dose targets. Given the fear psychosis following Omicron variant spread and unvaccinated people suffering from more severe Covid infection, the two districts should get there comfortably by next week.
Chandrapur and Gadchiroli remain the two districts in Nagpur division with highest number of unvaccinated people.
Reluctance and delay by the tribal communities have been identified as the major factor in these districts lagging in the vaccination drive. Yet, the local administrations are persisting with special drive even in farmlands to ensure they achieve the target as soon as possible.
The Nagpur city's tally of over 21lakh first doses has spurred the district's total to past its target of 37.44lakh target. This means the rural areas are still unable to achieve their target. Of the 37.44lakh, Nagpur city's target is 19.73lakh but as on date it has gone nearly 2lakh above the target.
The district health authorities had said that the proximity of city vaccination centres and convenience led to the disproportionate figures. Many beneficiaries residing in rural parts had taken their first dose in the city perhaps during their official hours or because of availability.
In Bhandara, where many from Nagpur travel for work, study, and business, the numbers have gone beyond the target mainly because of outside district beneficiaries. It was perceived initially that the district may not achieve cent per cent first dose coverage.

Overall Vidarbha now has 16.60lakh unvaccinated eligible 18+ beneficiaries. Of these, 15.40lakh unvaccinated eligible 18+ beneficiaries are in Amravati division.
Yavatmal district has the most unvaccinated 18+ beneficiaries followed by Buldhana and Amravati. Akola has the lowest number of unvaccinated 18+ beneficaires but that too is above 1lakh at 1.6lakh.
The Vidarbha first dose target for 18+beneficiaries is 1.81crore.
