Daily cases nearly 4k, recoveries also going up
Nagpur: The 11 districts of Vidarbha together reported 3,900 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday. The daily caseload is now marching towards the 4,000 mark as the third wave continues in Vidarbha.
Two deaths were reported in the region on Saturday. A 30-year-old woman who was a sickle cell patient died in Gadchiroli while a patient from other district/ state died in Nagpur.
The recovery count is also showing upward trend. On Saturday, 1,245 patients recovered in Vidarbha.
Test positivity rate has been the most important indicator in the third wave so far. On Saturday, 23,713 tests were conducted. With 3,900 of them coming positive, the overall test positivity surpassed 16% in Vidarbha. With more than 26% tests resulting in positive, Akola is leading in Vidarbha. Nagpur (18%), Wardha (20%), Chandrapur (18%), Gondia (18%) and Buldhana (16%) are on the higher side of the average while Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal are having less than 10% test positivity.
Overall, 17,892 patients are under treatment in the region. But, majority of them are home isolation. Hospital beds are vacant in most of the districts. Recovery rate, which was above 98% in the beginning of New Year, has dipped to 96.5% now.
Gadchiroli: A 30-year-old woman, a patient of sickle cell, who was admitted to Gadchiroli district hospital for sickle cell treatment, died on January 14. She had tested positive for Covid-19 during the course of treatment. This death took Gadchiroli’s Covid-19 toll to 749. Of the 800 tests reports received in the last 24 hours, 89 came positive while 30 patients recovered. Now, 502 patients are under treatment.
Gondia: Out of 941 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 168 tested positive, taking the caseload so far to 42,229. With 74 recoveries on Saturday, the total reached 40,710. Now, 804 patients are under treatment.

Bhandara: The district reported 81 new cases after 989 tests done in the last 24 hours. Also, 66 patients recovered in a day. Now, the caseload has reached 60,709, including 59,467 recoveries. Now, 408 patients are under treatment.
Washim: There were 68 new cases on Saturday. This took caseload to 42,090. The district has 281 patients under treatment now.
Buldhana: Of the 1,331 test reports received in the last 24 hours, 214 came positive, taking the caseload to 88,627. With new 35 recoveries, the count reached 87,080. The toll remained 676. Now, 871 patients are under treatment.
Akola: For the third consecutive day, the district reported a 200+ spike. Of the 944 test reports received in the last 24 hours, 246 came positive. Now, the district has 59,505 cases, 57,029 recoveries and 1,333 patients under treatment.
Chandrapur: Yet another spike of 341 patients took the number of active patients to the high of 1,334 on Saturday. District registered 91 recoveries, but no casualty was reported during the day.
Amravati: A spike of 207 new cases took the district’s caseload to 97,652 on Saturday even as 88 recoveries took the total to 94,967.
Active cases under treatment reached 1,085.
Yavatmal: No death was reported. Currently there are 563 active patients under treatment. 121 new cases were recorded wile 37 recovered on Saturday.
Wardha: 215 tested positive 33 were discharged on Saturday leaving 894 active positive under treatment in the district. No death was reported.
