Now, deer skin seized from Kadam hospital at Arvi
Nagpur: A new twist was added to the abortion case of Arvi taluka in Wardha after a deer skin was recovered from the Kadam Hospital on Saturday. The police, registering a fresh offence, handed over the skin to the forest department.
Around 54 bones and 12 skulls of babies have been recovered from a biogas plant on the premises of the hospital in the past.

Gynecologist Dr Rekha Kadam was arrested by the Wardha police along with her two nurses in connection to an alleged racket of illegal abortion. The issue of illegal abortion had come to fore after a 13-year-old girl had approached police against her 17-year-old boyfriend and his parents forcing her to abort on January 3 this year.
Police have also made Dr Rekha’s mother-in-law Dr Shailaja, also a gynecologist, co-accused in the case. She is right now hospitalized.
Police said a joint team of committee members of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques Act, 1994 (PCPNDT) and medical experts had conducted a joint search operations at the residence-cum-hospital of the Kadam family.
It was during the search that the deer skin was seized. “Prima face, the deer skin was likely to be used for seating in it but forest department would take final call on the issue. We have already handed over the skin to the forest officials,” said a police officer.

It’s also learnt that cops and the special teams have also recovered documents, medicines, records and some details of the abortions and other treatments done by the patients in the past at Kadam hospital.
According to a senior health official, actions would be initiated against the Kadam hospital authorities for different violations under PCPNDT Act.
SP Prashant Holkar said police would be waiting to receive the report from the PCPNDT committee following it's inspections for further actions.
