Three SSB jawans die of electrocution, 11 injured
Patna: Two trainees and one constable of the 45th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) died of electrocution at Birpur camp in Supaul district on Friday morning, SP D Amarkesh confirmed to TOI over the phone. Eleven other SSB jawans were also injured in the accident.
DIG, SSB (Purnea sector), S K Sarangi told TOI over the phone that two of the deceased were from Maharashtra and one was from Odisha.
Nine of the injured were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ramshila Sakri, 20km from Darbhanga, and two were admitted to the Composite hospital at Bathnaha in Araria district.
The deceased were identified as Parsuram Sabar from Rayagada in Odisha, constable Anmol Himmatrao and trainee Bopche Mahendra Chandrakumar from Maharashtra.
“We are sending one body to Nagpur and another to Aurangabad in Maharashtra. The body of Sabar will be sent to Bhubaneswar,” Sarangi said from Ramshila Sakri hospital where he visited the injured trainees in the evening.
The injured are from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Bihar. Narsimh Chauhan, K Chandrashekhar, Paritosh Adhikari, Mandvi Rajendra, Mohd Shamshad, Sukumar Verma, Sonelal Yadav, Anand Kishore, Palak Sanmukh and Birendra Magahi were among the injured trainee jawans. Three of the injured have burn injuries in their legs.
When asked about the reason behind the incident, the DIG said, “It was an accidental electrocution. Three of the boys died on the spot. They were shifting and pitching up a big tent in the field of the camp. Though there was a gap, electricity ran through the pole from the high-tension wire overhead,” he said.
Sarangi said the SSB unit had written to the electricity department on several occasions to remove the high-tension wire from there, but it remained there.
