Mikel Arteta watched his side fight valiantly to a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in Thursday night but at a cost.

The knocks picked up in the match, alongside positive Covid cases, AFCON, loan moves and Granit Xhaka's suspension, has seen Sunday's North London Derby postponed.

Pundits, and Tottenham themselves, have reacted to the decision , with the Gunners North London rivals far from happy.

And when the two sides meet later on this season, there's every chance Arteta could have one or two new signings to choose from which, he'll hope, could tilt the game in their favour.

Neville's postponement response

Arsenal's clash against Tottenham on Sunday is the latest Premier League game to be called off this season and the reaction has been mostly negative given the fact that the Gunners played on Thursday night.

Arteta has lost a host of players due to injury, Covid and the African Cup of Nations.

But in a wider message to the Premier League, who approved the Gunners' request, Gary Neville said that there must be a 'line in the sand' when it comes to the reasons behind postponing a game at short notice.

"The Premier League must stop this now, draw a line in the sand and say all games go ahead unless you have an exceptional amount of CV ( coronavirus ) cases. It’s wrong," Neville tweeted.

Arsenal wanted Spurs defender

One player who will take the field when Arsenal play Tottenham, barring injury and suspension, is Emerson Royal.

And under different circumstances, he could have been wearing the red of Arsenal instead of the white of Tottenham.

Royal was on the Gunners radar as they went in search of a right back at the end of the summer transfer window and technical director Edu gave the green light for the club to make the deal, according to the Guardian.

But at the last moment, Arsenal made a U-turn and signed the then-unknown Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Gunners talk to Costa

Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently away for the African Cup of Nations but is unlikely to feature for the club when he returns after falling out with Arteta.

The team's options up front are light and reports continue to surface about a new striker arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

The latest name to be linked to the club is former Chelsea attacker Diego Costa, who currently plays for Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro.

Claims suggest talks have already begun in regards to a short-term deal if the Gunners are unable to land their main target in Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic.
