The fire has caused property damage of an estimated Rs 25 crore.
HYDERABAD: A massive fire broke out at Secunderabad club during the early hours of Sunday. While the club officials are estimating the exact property damage, it is estimated that the loss would be over Rs 25 crore.
Established on April 26, 1878, the Secunderabad club is one of the oldest clubs in India.
According to police, at around 2.30 am security at the club have alerted the control room about a fire mishap in the main building.
During the same time, Blue Colts patrolling team also noticed the fire and alerted fire control.
As per initial inquiry, the fire appears to have started on the first floor of the three storied main building where offices of the club management are located and spread to the rest of the structure, Marredpally inspector Mattaiah said.
Eight fire tenders including an army fire engine reached the spot and worked continuously for four hours to douse the fire.
The 60,000 feet heritage structure has three floors. The entire structure was completely damaged due to fire, North Zone DCP G Chandana Deepthi said.
The damaged main building has the reception, bar and dining area, kitchen, ball room, super market, offices of the management, store room and billiards room. The structure has a lot of wood which according to fire officials is a reason for rapid spread of flames.
Police said that the club management is preparing a complaint and based on that they will register a case and start the probe.
