Cops harassing daughter for views online: Tripura BJP MLA

Cops harassing daughter for views online: Tripura BJP MLA
AGARTALA: A BJP MLA in Tripura on Sunday alleged that the state government is harassing his daughter, Anindita, for expressing independent views on social media. He said the police recently landed at her home for a case she has nothing to do with.
Arun Chandra Bhowmik, the MLA for Belonia in South Tripura, said two policewomen from East Agartala women's police station went to her home and sought to question her without valid papers.
She agreed to cooperate, but told police that the entire conversation should be videographed in the presence of her father-in-law. The police didn't agree and left, Bhowmik said.
The MLA is known to be close to CM Biplab Kumar Deb and top BJP politicians, while his wife is a Tripura high court lawyer. Anindita is a physiotherapist in Tripura Medical College (TMC). She was suspended last year for alleged misconduct that the MLA said was absolutely false and fabricated. She had questioned the alleged bias against non-medical staff in TMC and misappropriation of funds and other irregularities. Her suspension was extended twice in violation of service rules and the matter is sub judice, the MLA said.
"Police have been sent to put pressure on her," Bhowmik said. Both opposition - CPM and Trinamool Congress - condemned the harassment of Anindita.
