MARY HAYES AND SCOTT JACOBSON ARE THE TWO INDIVIDUALS THAT WILL BE INTERVIEWED, AND ONE WILL BE SELECTED TO SERVE ON THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2022, FILLING THE SEAT VACATED BY JANE EVANS. THERE WILL BE AN ELECTION IN THE FALL TO TO FILL THE POSITION FOR A FULL TERM. THOSE INTERVIEWS WILL TAKE PLACE JANUARY 24TH.

IT’S NEARLY TAX FILING SEASON. THE STATE OF MINNESOTA WILL OPEN THE STATE INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX FILING SEASON ON MONDAY, JANUARY 24, WITH A DEADLINE TO FILE THIS YEAR ON APRIL 18.

THE ROSEAU KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAM PLACED 5TH AND 7TH OUT OF 17 TEAMS THAT COMPETED AT A MEET IN BEMIDJI ON THURSDAY. THEY’LL NEXT COMPETE WEDNESDAY IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.

DNR OFFICIALS HAVE VERIFIED FOOTAGE OF A COUGAR CAUGHT ON A TRIAL CAMERA A FEW MILES SOUTHWEST OF BAUDETTE. THE FOOTAGE WAS FROM DECEMBER 14 OF LAST YEAR ON A CAMERA OWNED BY DENNIS TOPP.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR BETTY LOU MORKEN WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY (11 AM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU, WITH VISITATION ONE HOUR PRIOR. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT PINE CREEK CEMETERY. BETTY LOU MORKEN WAS 72.

A 40-YEAR OLD WOMAN HAS DIED IN A WEEKEND GRAND FORKS HOUSE FIRE. AUTHORITIES WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AROUND 2 AM SATURDAY. TWO RESIDENTS WERE REMOVED FROM THE HOME, WITH THE WOMAN DYING YESTERDAY FROM HER INJURIES.

A 46-YEAR OLD DULUTH MAN WAS ARRESTED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING ON FIRST-DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES, AFTER KNOCKING A MAN UNCONSIOUS DURING A FIGHT, THAT MAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT SCENE A SHORT TIME LATER. ANTHONY LASPINA WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL FOR INJURIES, AND LATER TO ST LOUIS COUNTY JAIL. THE NAME OF THE 42 YEAR OLD VICTIM HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.
