Rahul Gandhi famously remarked in 2013, when UPA was in office and few could have gauged Congress’s dramatic decline since, “If India is a computer, then Congress is its default programme.” What he meant was that even if non-Congress governments came to office, they would follow programmes and policies whose template had already been set by Congress.

Circa 2022, it’s time to revise that statement. Indian politics has been thoroughly overhauled in a decade, and its operating system is no longer a Congress OS but a BJP OS. Non-BJP parties, too, have adopted a language and approach that resemble BJP’s. Take, for instance, something that Rahul himself said recently – that India is a Hindu nation. A statement like this would have been inconceivable from the mouth of any Congressperson a decade ago.
