Thane: Truck driver injured in Mumbai-Nashik highway mishap

A driver of a container truck suffered injuries after his vehicle rammed into a speeding gas-laden tanker on the arterial Mumbai-Nashik highway which remained jammed for nearly five hours following the mishap early on Tuesday.

THANE: A driver of a container truck suffered injuries after his vehicle rammed into a speeding gas-laden tanker on the arterial Mumbai-Nashik highway which remained jammed for nearly five hours following the mishap early on Tuesday.
Santosh Kadam, chief of the regional disaster management cell at Thane corporation, said that a tempo traveller was moving on the opposite lane of the Nashik highway around 4am near Mankoli when it came in the path of an oncoming container truck.
The driver spotted the tempo and tried to swerve his vehicle to avoid a collision but rammed into a gas tanker moving on the opposite lane.
“The driver of the container suffered injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital by the rescue staff,” Kadam said.
Meanwhile, commuters complained traffic jam for hours on the highway.
“We were stuck for nearly three hours. As we had no idea of the mishap beforehand, we couldn’t take a detour,” said a commuter from Bhiwandi.
Deputy police commissioner (traffic) Balasaheb Patil said the affected vehicles were removed promptly and the stretch was cleared for traffic ahead of the morning peak hours.
