ECC holding vaccine clinics this week and next

Elgin Community College will hold COVID-19 vaccine clinics from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the lobby of ECC’s Building K, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

First, second and booster doses will be available for free and both clinics are open to the public. Preregistration online at bit.ly/3edxNTr is encouraged, officials said.

Blood drive being held Saturday in South Elgin

State Rep. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva, will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, in the training room at the South Elgin Public Works Building, 1000 Bowes Road, South Elgin.

The event will be conducted by Versiti Blood Center of Illinois. Appointments are encouraged and can be made at donate.illinois.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/5597691.

According to the Red Cross, Illinois’ blood supply is at a critical low, resulting in the cancellation of surgeries. The organization recently declared a nationwide blood supply shortage crisis for the first time.

Free income tax prep services available at Elgin library

Gail Borden Public Library is offering free tax preparation services Thursdays and Saturdays from Jan. 27 to April 16 at its main location at 270 N. Grove in Elgin.

Patrons can deposit tax documents in a locked box at the library Thursday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 29. In-person tax preparation assistance is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 3 through April 16.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling 224-535-9856. Sessions will be scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

COVID pushes start of ECC’s spring term to Jan. 24

In light of the rising COVID-19 infection rates, the start of the Elgin Community College’s spring term has been pushed back to Monday, Jan. 24.

Per a state mandate, ECC employees, students and anyone participating in on-campus events or activities must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a negative COVID-19 test at least once a week. The mandate does not apply to online students.

Free COVID testing for ECC students and staff is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays in Building K, Room 171, at the 1700 Spartan Drive campus. No appointment is necessary.

Carpentersville conducting online home water survey

Residents in Carpentersville’s Old Town are being asked to complete an online survey on home water services survey by Jan. 31 so the village can plan for the removal of lead water lines.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Property owners and renters are both asked fill out the survey, which includes information on how to properly identify water service lines.
