Vikram Dev Dutt to head Air India

The appointment comes at a time the government is in the final stages of handing over the airline to Tata Sons

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday appointed Vikram Dev Dutt as Chairman and Managing Director of Air India.

Mr Dutt is is a 1993-batch IAS officer of AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.

He has been appointed as Air India Chief in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary, according to an order of the Department of Personnel and Training.

The appointment comes at a time the government is in the final stages of handing over the airline to Tata Sons, which won a bidding process to privatise the airline. The transfer of the airline was earlier supposed to conclude last month, but is delayed as certain conditions precedent need to be concluded.
