CHELMSFORD — Six Chelmsford High School seniors were recently honored as Lions Pride/Rotary Student of the Month recipients for December, Principal Stephen Murray announced.

Sponsored by the Chelmsford Rotary Club for over 30 years, the Student of the Month program recognizes outstanding students from each of Chelmsford High’s three academic houses for their achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Emerson House

Kara DeMoulpied, daughter of David and Hana DeMoulpied, is a member of four national honor societies, including those for science, English and Spanish. She is enrolled in five Advanced Placement courses and has been a high honor roll student for each semester of high school.

Kara has served as a class representative since her freshman year and is a member of the mentoring program and Color Guard. She has volunteered for such causes such as the Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Walk, Table of Plenty and multiple Parent-Teacher Organization events. Kara received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award in 2020 and attended the conference last summer. She plans to major in biology in college.

Michelle Mwangi, daughter of John and Irene Mwangi, is currently the Emerson House Career X intern. Academically, she has balanced such rigorous courses as Quantitative Reasoning with a full slate of leadership and volunteerism.

Michelle is the president and a founding member of the Black Student Union, which strives to provide a safe environment for students to discuss the school and community climate. Over the summer, she completed an online summer course, Black Girls Lead, through Middlesex Community College. Michelle also serves in the mentor program, works two jobs and plans to study criminal justice in college.

Hawthorne House

Rania El-Hakkaoui, daughter of Bouchra Elidrissi and Zakaria El-Hakkaoui, is a member of three national honor societies, including those for English and Spanish, and has thrived in several honors and Advanced Placement courses.

Rania is the captain of the cheer squad and a member of the gymnastics team, earning All-Merrimack Valley Conference honors and Team Most Valuable Player. She is also involved with the freshman mentor program, TedEd Club, Peer Tutoring, Leaders In Motion Everywhere and Class Representatives. Rania plans to study psychology and health science at Northeastern University, with the goal of attending medical school and becoming a pediatrician.

Michael Khela, son of Hala Takla and Emil Gendi, has been a high honor roll student in each term of high school, excelling in several Advanced Placement courses. He is a member of three national honor societies, including those for science and English, and serves as a board member for the latter.

Michael founded The Door Project, a group of students who paint murals on classroom doors, is treasurer of the GIVE Club and a member of the Dean Council, the soccer and track and field teams and several clubs. Last summer, he traveled to Santa Cruz de la Serra, Bolivia, to help educate youths in underprivileged communities, and helped construct dormitories for a monastery in Sandia, Texas. He plans to major in chemistry or biochemistry in college, with the goal of attending medical school to study neurology.

Whittier House

Sankalp Bhoyar, son of Ajeet and Rajeshree Bhoyar, has been a mainstay on the high honor roll and is a member of four national honor societies, including those for English, Spanish and science. He was elected as the vice president of his class and serves as a board member for the National Science Honor Society, Science Team and freshman mentor program, and is also involved in the LIME and GIVE clubs, DECA and Class Representatives.

Sankalp is a two-year captain of the track and field teams, currently ranking fourth in the latest Merrimack Valley Conference shot put list with an effort of 43 feet, 11 inches. He plans to major in biomedical engineering in college and to pursue a career in nephrology.

Hailey MacMillan, daughter of Anne MacMillan, is a member of both the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society and is enrolled in several honors and Advanced Placement courses. She is involved in several clubs, including the Mock Trial Team, LIME and Mentors. Hailey has also been a two-year board member with the Melting Pot Club and is a saxophone section leader with the marching band.

Hailey plans to major in psychology and cognitive/brain sciences in college. She hopes to pursue a career in forensic psychology or psychiatry, with a focus on criminal justice and human rights.
