THANE: Traffic came to a standstill on the Mumbai-Nashik highway for nearly five hours early on Tuesday morning after a collision between a container and a gas-laden tanker. The driver of the container had swerved to avoid a truck driving in the wrong direction, but ended up ramming into the gas tanker on the opposite lane around 4am, officials said.
"The driver of the container suffered injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital by the rescue staff," said
Santosh Kadam, chief of the regional disaster management cell at the Thane corporation.
The two heavy vehicles blocked traffic at the spot for hours, until till the traffic police rushed there with cranes and cleared the path.
Balasaheb Patil,
DCP (Thane traffic), said the affected vehicles were removed promptly and the stretch was cleared ahead of the morning peak hours.
