A further 8,495 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland with the disease claiming another 29 lives.

Data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland show there are currently 1,571 patients with Covid in Scottish hospitals, which is up 25 from yesterday.

There are currently 44 people being treated with the disease in ICUs.

The new fatalities recorded within the last 24 hours bring the nation's death toll to 10,122. However, 12,675 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, January 16 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Meanwhile, there are 129 patients with Covid in Ayrshire hospitals – down eight from yesterday – while fewer than five people are being treated with the illness in the region's intensive care units.

Figures were released as Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the House of Commons that all 'Plan B' coronavirus restrictions in England, including mask wearing, would be lifted from Thursday, January 27.

In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, East Lothian has the highest rate in the country – at 679.3 as of Tuesday, January 18.

Clackmannanshire has the second-highest infection rate at 672.6 while Falkirk is third with 653.3.

In terms of Ayrshire's three local authorities, East Ayrshire has the highest rate of 554.3; North Ayrshire's rate stands at 543.8 while South Ayrshire's is 433.4.

Of the 585 cases reported in Ayrshire, 200 were in East Ayrshire with 194 in North Ayrshire and 191 in South Ayrshire.

A total of 4,401,876 people have received one dose of a Covid vaccine; 4,092,558 are double jabbed and 3,223,113 people have received a third dose/booster.
