COIMBATORE: The city police on Tuesday arrested a 32-year-old
Rwandan national and seized 2.5kg ganja from him.
The arrested person was identified as Ishimwe Stebbins of
Gahunga. He was an MSc Software System student in a private college in Saravanampatti during 2012-17 and had turned to ganja peddling after completing the course, police said.
Saravanampatti sub-inspector K Chellamani and team had found him carrying a sack containing the contraband near a
Tasmac outlet on Saravanampatti – Keeranatham Road on Tuesday night.
“He was staying in a rented room at Keeranatham and used to supply ganja to youths in Kovilpalayam. He contacted them through WhatsApp. His visa expired last July and he was staying illegally in India,” a police officer said.
Stebbins told police that he bought ganja from a Pollachi-based peddler. A special team is camping in Pollachi to nab the peddler.
Police also seized a motorcycle, two cellphones and 1,300 from Stebbins. He was booked under sections 20 (b) (ii) (B) of the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and was taken to the Puzhal Central Prison.
