Rajkot: A newly married man allegedly killed his wife, suspecting her of having an affair with someone, in
Jasdan town of Rajkot district, on Tuesday night.
According to police,
Mohammed Shah Pathan (21), a resident of Jasdan, had got married to Ashiyani (19) of Gundala village of Bhavnagar just three months back.
However,
Pathan started suspecting her loyalty towards him and accused her of having an extramarital affair.
This resulted in frequent quarrels between the couple.
Two months ago, Pathan had even taken away her phone forcibly when he saw her talking to someone. Ashiyani had then refused to reveal the name of the person with whom she was talking and this further soured the relationship.
Ashiiyani’s father had gifted her a new mobile 10 days back.
“On Tuesday night, when Pathan came home, his wife was talking with somebody on the phone. When asked whom she was talking to, she did not reply, which made him furious,” said KG
Rana, police inspector of Jasdan.
“Already burning with rage, Pathan smothered her to death when she was asleep,” said Rana.
Pathan’s parents, who were sleeping in the adjacent room, woke up hearing the screams of their daughter in law.
They rushed her to the hospital when she was declared dead on admission.
