East Delhi Municipal Corporation to collect and dispose of scrap
After an encouraging response to its schemes for collection of plastic and electronic waste from households and industrial areas, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has finalised a private contractor for collection, transportation and safe disposal of scrap, including discarded metal, old vehicles and iron items. A public notice has been uploaded on the EDMC website informing people about the initiative. Details of rates for different materials, contact numbers and time taken for collecting items will be provided within a week once the final agreement is signed, said an official. The agency has also been assigned the task of integrating the unorganised sector in this chain.

Drug addicts kill bus conductor in Delhi
Two drug addicts killed a bus conductor in a fit of rage when they robbed him and found only Rs 250 in his wallet in the Jagatpuri area of the national capital, a senior police official said on Thursday. The incident occurred when the bus conductor, identified as Deepak, was sleeping in the vehicle.
Delhi court pulls up cops for non-compliance with orders in property case
A Delhi court pulled up the police for non-compliance of its orders in a property dispute, saying it reflected the “casual manner” in which its orders were being taken by the authorities. The court in an order on January 18 said that the status report seems like a mere formality and nothing has been stated in it about the progress of the investigation being carried out.

An obscure tea stall outside Sultanpuri police station was allegedly being used as a bribe collection centre. This came to fore when CBI carried out a trap operation and arrested a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector posted there along with his conduit in a bribery case. The cop had allegedly asked for Rs 40,000 from the complainant to not go for arrests in a case he was investigating. Delhi: Cost of new Parliament building rises 24% to Rs 1,200 crore
The estimated project cost of the new Parliament Building has shot up by nearly 24% to about Rs 1,200 crore due to additional works, changes in construction plan, and also to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court. The new Parliament Building project was awarded to Tata Projects at Rs 971 crore and 40% of the work is now complete.
