NAVI MUMBAI: The Thane anti-corruption bureau (ACB) team caught a Cidco executive engineer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a civil contractor.
The engineer had demanding a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for releasing payments of his six outstanding bills on Wednesday afternoon.
The accused Kalyan Patil (57), a class-1 officer attached to Cidco’s PP&Q department at Raigad Bhawan in CBD-Belapur, has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Thane ACB deputy superintendent of police Maya More informed that on January 18, a civil contractor had lodged a complaint with Thane ACB office alleging that Cidco engineer Kalyan Patil was demanding a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from him for releasing payments of his six outstanding bills for the Cidco contract work of bridge painting and sanitisation of Kharghar railway station premises and skywalk.
The complainant also alleged that Patil had already accepted Rs 1.20 lakh bribe from him for releasing payments of his three bills and was further demanding Rs 30,000.
Also, for releasing the remaining three bills, Patil had allegedly told the civil contractor that he will decide his bribe later.
Manoj Prajapati, police inspector, Thane ACB said, "On Wednesday, we verified the complaint of the civil contractor and laid a trap for Kalyan Patil on the road behind MGM hospital in CBD.
"At around 1.30pm, as Patil arrived in his personal car and accepted a Rs 30,000 bribe from the contractor inside his car, we caught Patil red-handed with the bribe money. Patil is in Thane ACB custody," he added.
