We’ve all had moments when we were close to tears, or our eyes got watery from the stench of something. Dr Anthony Youn says farts are no exception.

Dr. Young responded to one user who posted to social media that they’d ‘gone blind for 3 minutes’ after “farting hard”.

In the Instagram video, he explained why passing wind can actually cause vision loss.

He said: “Although this is very unlikely, if the gas you pass is extremely pungent, it could contain large amounts of hydrogen sulfide.

“Studies show that hydrogen sulfide is very effective at reducing blood pressure.

“If [a fart]Reduces blood pressure to central retinal artery. Your silent, yet deadly, heartbeat could theoretically lead you blind.

“So be careful if you’re making a lot of bubbles in your bathtub!”

The video has been viewed over 570,000 times and received 36,700 likes on Instagram. Viewers were shocked by the admission.

Some users claimed they are now “paronoid” about farting. Others said that they learn something every day.

Experts warn that you shouldn’t hold a fart, but if you do, it is advisable to let it out.

He joked: “The more the merrier. If someone tells you they don’t fart they are lying and you should disown them immediately or they have got a bowel obstruction which is a medical emergency.”

His 4.2 million TikTok users were informed by the NHS doctor that the average fart volume was enough to fill a medium-sized balloon.

He cautioned: “If you hold in a fart too long it can be reabsorbed into your blood circulation and breathed out when you exhale.”

DON’T TAKE IT IN

This could be a sign that your breath is stale.

Professor Clare Collins from the University of Newcastle, is a nutrition and dieetics expert. He said that holding on to too much intestinal gas means it will eventually escape through an uncontrollable way.

Dr Karan explained that the first fart of the day is often the largest. 75 percent of farts come from bacteria in the large intestinale.

“Digestive food isn’t broken down and is chewed by bacteria which produces microscopic farts, which accumulate before becoming your regular farts.

“25 percent of farts come from air that you don’t swallow and dissolved gases are caused by blood entering your intestines.

“99 per cent of a fart is non-stinky gases such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane.”
