A hospital has released a statement after a man was charged with murder following an alleged assault on site which lead to the death of a pensioner.

Police were called to County Hospital in Stafford following an incident shortly before 8pm on February 17 2021.

Oliver Kemp, aged 82 and from Stone, died in hospital six days later as a result of his injuries, Staffordshire Police said.

Now Joseph David Phillips, aged 32, of Espleys Yard, Stafford, has been charged with murder. He appeared before magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre and was remanded and is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court this afternoon (January 20).

Ann-Marie Riley, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Chief Nurse, said: “It would be inappropriate for the trust to comment while court proceedings are active but our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mr Kemp at this difficult time.”
