Nearly 50% youths in 15-18 age group given vax dose in Vid, 29k get booster in district
Nagpur: The vaccination of adolescences between 15 and 18 years of age is going on in full swing across the Vidarbha region with about 5.50 lakh successfully jabbed with one dose in the last 17 days. The vaccination had begun on January 3.
As far as the booster dose that began on January 10 is concerned, near 80,000 people, including senior citizens, have received the third dose by Thursday.
Booster dose is set to gain pace in February as more senior citizens will be eligible, said officials.
“We have successfully jabbed more than 41,500 adolescences in Gondia which account more than 60% of our target,” said district health officer of Gondia Dr Nitin Kapse. About 4,000 frontline workers, health workers and senior citizens have taken booster in Gondia which has been one of the leading districts in vaccination right from the beginning.
In Bhandara, the first dose of vaccination coverage is more than 100% while 44,205 in 15-18 age group have taken vaccines. “We have been leading in vaccination right from the beginning and we are continuing it in pediatric vaccination too. More than 50% of our adolescences are now vaccinated,” said district collector Sandip Kadam.
In Buldhana, 55,860 youths have taken vaccines, which is near 50%.
In Nagpur, more than 1.26 lakh adolescences have taken vaccines which is quite near to the half of the total target of 2.35 lakh. The adolescences who had taken first dose in first week of January will become eligible for the second dose in the next ten days and more rush will be seen across the vaccination centers then.
“Vaccination is a major tool to ensure safety of pediatric population,” said Dr Vasant Khalatkar, who was principal investigator for the pediatric trials of Covaxin held in Nagpur.
