Transfer guru Michael Edwards will bring his 10-year association with Liverpool to an end in the summer and the club's departing sporting director was expected to go out with a bang. However, that simply hasn't been the case.

Despite much speculation over signings, the 42-year-old, who masterminded deals to bring the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, Alisson and Sadio Mane to Anfield, is yet to add any new faces to Jurgen Klopp's roster this January.

Sorting Mohamed Salah's contract looks to be the club's priority at present, though a number targets are still being tracked ahead of potential moves in the remaining weeks of this month or in the summer.

While Anfield arrivals are appearing increasingly unlikely, several of the Klopp's squad have been tipped to move on to pastures new.

Reds craving Carvalho

Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho has reportedly been watched on many occasions by Liverpool scouts

Having established himself as one of the hottest talents in Championship football this season, Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho is reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season with the Cottagers, netting seven goals in 16 outings this campaign despite overcoming injury and Covid, and his fine form has caught the eye of Premier League admirers.

According to the Daily Express, the Reds have sent scouts to watch the teenager on numerous occasions this season and are prepared to make a £5million move this month, amid interest from West Ham.

Carvalho's current deal expires at the end of the season and Fulham are facing the dilemma of selling one of their prized assets this month or potentially losing him for a compensation fee in the summer, should he fail to sign a new deal.

Amid talk of Liverpool lurking, the Championship side's manager Marco Silva issued the youngster with a warning, stating: “He has to keep his feet on the floor, and so do the people around him.

"Sometimes you want to make a step bigger than your leg can take. Sometimes you are making a big mistake."

Liverpool consider Cherki

Lyon forward Rayan Cherki is reported target for Liverpool

Another highly-rated prospect attracting Liverpool's attention, according to reports, is Lyon's Rayan Cherki.

The teenage forward hit the headlines when he became the third youngest player to ever make his Champions League debut as a 16-year-old and, two years on, is being linked with a move away.

According to L’Equipe, via AS, the Reds are one of a number of clubs interested in signing the versatile attacker, who has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Peter Bosz this campaign, making a mere two Ligue 1 starts.

Cherki's situation is believed to have alerted Liverpool, though Klopp's side face competition for the Frenchman's services, with Manchester United, Nice and Real Madrid also linked.

The player himself has previously made his preference clear, telling Lyon's in-house TV channel, "My dream is to play for Real Madrid".

Williams recalled

Rhys Williams has been recalled from his loan at Swansea City

Though it remains to be seen if Liverpool will add any new faces to the squad this month, an old face has made his return, as Rhys Williams has been recalled from his loan spell at Swansea City.

The defender proved to be an important member of the Reds squad that finished third in the Premier League last season, making 19 appearances across all competitions, as he deputised following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

The 20-year-old joined the Championship side on loan in August, but he's made just seven appearances in all competitions and the Reds have decided to bring him back.

"Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Rhys for his contribution during his brief time at the club, and wish him every success in his future career," read a club statement.

Klopp is yet to outline his plans for Williams during the second half of this season, but his recall to the Reds' first-team could lead to the sale of fellow defender Nat Phillips, who has been linked with Premier League strugglers Burnley and Newcastle.
