PANAJI: Goa BJP election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said TMC has come to Goa with a ‘suitcase’ thinking that it is a market and that Goan leaders are for sale.
“The kind of politics TMC has brought to Goa has been rejected by Goans from the start. TMC has come to Goa with a suitcase, based on which it has tried to expand its party as though Goa is a market and Goan leaders are on sale,” Fadnavis said.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party made its foray into Goan politics in September and its entire groundwork is being managed by I-PAC. TMC has forged a pre-poll alliance with Goa’s oldest regional party — Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) — and has announced that it will contest all 40 seats for the upcoming assembly elections. The party has already announced its first list of 11 candidates.
“The people have been saying that TMC has been purchasing Congress functionaries. Despite this, the party does not inspire any confidence among the people of Goa because the stand it has taken is anti-Hindu, anti-national and anti-democratic,” Fadnavis said.
Commenting on TMC’s pre-poll alliance with MGP, Fadnavis said, “After the kind of behaviour exhibited by TMC during the West Bengal assembly election, the people of Goa have understood that this party is not suitable. Unfortunately, Goa’s home-grown party, MGP, has forged an alliance with it. Because of this, there is resentment among MGP’s cadre and some of its functionaries have decided not to contest the elections while some others have joined BJP.”
