Tripura moving towards development, connectivity instead of extremism, infiltration: Amit Shah
NEW DELHI: Accusing the erstwhile communist regime in Tripura of keeping the state backward and focusing instead on politics of violence against its rivals, home minister Amit Shah on Friday said the Biplab Kumar Deb government had made great efforts to bring peace and stability in the state that was now moving towards “development, connectivity, infrastructure and investment”.

“Today, instead of extremism, infiltration, blockades, drugs, arms trafficking, corruption and communal tension, Tripura is moving towards development, connectivity, infrastructure, sports, investment, and promotion of organic farming,” Shah said while addressing a virtual function to mark Tripura’s 50th Statehood Day.
He said the communists never ran the government in Tripura from the point of view of development and deprived it of development for two decades. “In these two decades (of Left rule), more than 450 workers of our party were attacked, many people lost their lives, remained destitute in their own state, in their own country as refugees. But today all these efforts have begun yielding results and Tripura has started moving on the path of development,” said the home minister.
The Left front ruled Tripura from 1978 to 1988 and again from 1993 to 2018. The Biplab Kumar Deb-led BJP government came to power in 2018.
Shah on Friday said the per capita income of the residents of Tripura has gone up by 30% in just three years -- from Rs 1 lakh in 2017 to Rs 1.30 lakh in 2020.
He said over 100 companies have come to Tripura in the last four years with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, thanks to the numerous steps taken by the BJP government.
Shah said work was underway to develop Tripura as a gateway to the North East. “There will be a lot of investment in Tripura in the coming days due to the dozens of road and rail projects and international waterway connectivity with Bangladesh,” he stated.

Stating that Tripura has embarked on a new era under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the home minister appealed to the youth of Tripura to join the development journey of the state such that when India celebrates its centenary of Independence, Tripura should be the most developed state.
The home minister also lauded the strong steps taken by the Deb government to eradicate the drug menace and said that the tribal community is the biggest beneficiary of the curbs on narcotics.
