'West Ham continues to be unequivocal in its stance - we have a zero-tolerance approach to any forms of discrimination,' the club said in a statement to the BBC.

'Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the football club and we are committed to ensuring everyone is free to enjoy watching our teams play in an inclusive environment.

The Chelsea supporters group meanwhile posted on Twitter to condemn the alleged homophobic chant.

'Tonight we were shocked at hearing a homophobic chant sung by a West Ham fan during the game'.

'We want to make it very clear and even more so as the women's game is so inclusive, [that] there is no place in football for homophobia, biphobia and transphobia . We condemn this and all forms of discrimination.

'We will all continue to work together to create a game where everyone is welcome.'

Emma Hayes' side did however manage to make it through to the semi-finals of the competition, with Erin Cuthbert also on the scoresheet for the visitors. Katerina Svitkova and Halle Houssein meanwhile were on target for the hosts.

Chelsea will now face Manchester United on Wednesday February 2 after the Red Devils scored a late winner to beat Arsenal.
