Mid-day meal workers seek pay raise
Mysuru: The Karnataka State Mid-Day Meal Workers’ Federation members on Friday demanded a hike in their remuneration.
The workers gathered near the deputy commissioner’s office and shouted slogans against the government.
The protesters said they were unable to survive with the meagre pay that they receive for preparing the mid-day meals. “We get just Rs 2,700 per month.
It has become hard to survive on this wage when the cost of all essential items have skyrocketed. So we are demanding a Rs 21,000 salary per month,” they said.
The protesters also demanded that the government regularise their jobs, deposit Rs 2 lakh in their accounts and Rs 3,000 as pension after retirement. tnn
