The city we call home can receive quite a bashing from those who don't live here - a few locals aren't too fond either.

But, there are many reasons as to why we just can't seem to part with Coventry.

Even those who moved away will probably have a sense of protection about the area if someone talks about it negatively.

Whether it be the cathedral, the rich history or the huge Primark, we've put together a list of a few reasons as to why we love this city.

Coventry has had three cathedrals and is famous for the attack it suffered during Coventry Blitz in 1940.

The cathedral burned to the ground and all that remains, can still be visited today, next to the new cathedral.

Their website says: "The decision to rebuild the cathedral was taken the morning after its destruction. Rebuilding would not be an act of defiance, but rather a sign of faith, trust and hope for the future of the world."

It has thousands of visitors every year.

Our football club are loved and supported by nearly everyone in Coventry.

They offer a sense of community and pride -especially since Mark Robbins became manager and got the team to the Championship.

Even our buses our sky blue!

Everyone misses Highfield Road though.

4. Primark

Not something you would class as a reason to love a city, but, how often do you just 'nip' into Primark?

If we didn't have one (and quite a large one compared to other cities) you would definitely miss it.

5. Coventry Market

Bulls Head, Meriden

For more than 500 years Meriden, has marked the centre of England (the sign sits in the Bull's Head garden) which means living in Coventry makes travelling very easy.

We have great transport links to the whole of England and can get to London by train in under two hours.

Plus, if we ever get bored we can go to Birmingham for the day or night.

8. Lady Godiva

Or get over the excitement when you see Peeping Tom and Lady Godiva come out of the clock in Broadgate?

Everyone loves hearing THAT line in Queen's song too.

The Lady Godiva statue finished being built in 1949 and became a listed monument in 1998.

As much as people joke Coventry has nothing, we actually have the largest arts centres outside of London.

Warwick Arts Centre has played host to hundreds of comedians and acts over the years including Romesh Ranganathan.

We also have the Belgrade Theatre, which puts on plays, concerts and pantomimes all year, and the Herbert Art Gallery.

11. All the events to come this year

The past year ended with Coventry Building Society (CBS) Arena hosting the MOBO's and Ed Sheeran performing at Empire. The city has more to come in 2022.
