Thane: Man arrested for duping retired govt officer's family of Rs 31 lakh

The Ramnagar Police in Dombivli has arrested a 28-year old self-proclaimed godman who allegedly looted a retired sales tax officer’s family of Rs 31 lakh on the pretext of removing negative energy from the family.

KALYAN: The Ramnagar Police in Dombivli has arrested a 28-year old self-proclaimed godman who allegedly looted a retired sales tax officer’s family of Rs 31 lakh on the pretext of removing negative energy from the family.
The arrested accused was identified as Pawan Patil. He is a resident of Bhadgaon area in Jalgaon district in Maharashtra.
Police said complainant Priyanka Rane’s father was suffering from cancer.
Her mother, who is a retired sales tax officer, came into contact with Patil, who claimed to have some power in him and that he can cure her husband.
The police said since Priyanka’s husband Yogesh had lost his job, Patil assured her that he will get her husband’s job back. It is found that Priyanka's father did not survive due to cancer and died later but her husband got a job. The godman Patil told them that someone had done black magic on the family and after removing that, their family problems would be solved.
The accused between the period of December 2019 and January 21 used different tactics by performing different pujas and took Rs 32 lakh from the family.
Shekhar Sarade, Police Inspector of Dombivli police station said, “The man had shown the family different tricks and magic by hypnotising them to gain the trust of the family”.
Sarade said, “The accused in the name of several rituals and pooja looted the family of Rs 32 lakh that includes bank transfer, online transfer and also some gifts”.
The police have learnt that Patil has a lot of followers and have appealed that if he cheated anybody then to approach the police.
