Wolverhampton Wanderers extended their winning streak in 2022 to four matches with a 2-1 victory over Brentford.

An eventful game in west London saw a sickening clash of heads, a drone halt play and the referee's faulty equipment delay proceedings further.

A red card for Toti Gomes was overturned, but Brentford boss Thomas Frank wasn't so lucky at full-time after Wolves sealed another three points thanks to strikes from Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves.

Bruno Lage's team have now defeated Manchester United, Southampton and Brentford in quick succession, whilst the recent win over Sheffield United has set up an FA Cup fourth round tie with Norwich City in early February.

Brentford get a taste of their own medicine

The Bees frustrated Lage and Wolves' supporters when the two teams met at Molineux back in September. Their time-wasting tactics, in particular, infuriated Lage.

A series of freak disruptions ensured the game in west London was equally stop-start, but this time it was Brentford who couldn't find any kind of rhythm.

Wolves gave Brentford boss Frank and his players a taste of their own medicine in the latter stages to intelligently see the game out.

Frank's emotions boiled over at the final whistle as he was sent off following an altercation with Moutinho.

Having been a soft touch earlier in the season, Wolves have wised up.

Bruno Lage is working miracles

Wolves have a 100 per cent record in 2022 and now sit just four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, with a game in hand.

Lage has built the third best defence in Europe's top five leagues and let's not forget Wolves are still in the FA Cup.

Oh, and he's worked out a way to make Neves and Moutinho excel alongside one another.

He's achieved all of this on one of the Premier League's smallest transfer budgets and with numerous injuries to key players.

Star striker Raul Jimenez joined the growing list of Wolves absentees earlier this week due to a calf injury.

Lage drafted in teenager Fabio Silva to replace Jimenez and the Portuguese prodigy carried out his manager's instructions on his first Premier League start of the season.

Despite the odds being stacked against Lage in his first season as a Premier League manager, he's outperforming the majority of his counterparts.

Wolves have a simple Adama Traore choice

The smile on Adama Traore's face said it all. He was mobbed by his Wolves teammates and given a big hug by Lage.

It doesn't matter that his goal was eventually ruled out for offside, this felt like a significant moment.

Traore, despite all the speculation over a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, genuinely looked happy playing for Wolves.

An in-form Traore can be a huge asset to Wolves in their quest for European football and all the signs suggest he is returning to his best.

Now is not the time to sell him, especially to a club who are directly competing with Wolves in the Premier League.

Regardless of whether Traore will sign a new deal, a decision over his future must be postponed until the summer.

Who knows, maybe playing in Europe again for Wolves might be enough to prompt a re-think for Traore.

Semedo shows his class

We were treated to another excellent performance from Portuguese full-back Nelson Semedo.

The former Barcelona man has enjoyed a very good season, but he's stepped things up a notch in 2022.

Semedo was involved in both of Wolves' goals against Brentford. For the first, he dovetailed superbly with Moutinho before the midfielder produced a sensational outside-of-the-boot finish.

Semedo dashed in behind Brentford's defence to collect Daniel Podence's pass before firing across goal in the build-up to Neves' winner.

There has been lots of criticism directed towards Semedo in the past, but fans are now beginning to see why Wolves splashed out so heavily on him.
