CHANDIGARH: On Republic Day this year, the tableau from Haryana will showcase the state’s exploits in sports at the parade on Rajpath. Themed ‘Haryana- Number One in Sports’, the tableau will feature international sportspersons from the state.
In 2017, Haryana’s tableau on the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ was selected for the R-Day Parade.
The Haryana Tableau is divided in two parts.
The front consists of horses and a conch. The horses pulling the chariot symbolize ‘Vijay Rath’ from the Mahabharata. The conch placed here is a symbol of Lord Krishna’s conch shell.
The second part of the tableau is divided into four parts. Its first part symbolizes the Olympics area, with two wrestlers giving a demonstration of wrestling on a mat. In the next two parts, 10 international sportspersons from Haryana will be seen standing.
The last part of the tableau will have a life-size replica of Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra in a javelin-throwing position. On both sides of the tableau, there will be artistic representation of boxing, weightlifting, shooting, discus throw and hockey.
Haryana additional director for information, public relations and languages Kuldeep Saini will accompany sportspersons Bajrang Punia, Rani Rampal, Yogeshwar Dutt, Mamta Kharb, Sumit Antil, Deepak Punia, Harvinder, Yogesh Kathuniya, Rampal, Ranjeet, Ashu and Anil on the tableau.
Haryana, a state with only 1.3% geographical area and 2.09% population of the country, has been among the top contributors to the country’s sporting achievements. Of the total seven medals won by India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Haryana sportspersons won four medals, including the lone gold medal in individual category. Sportspersons from Haryana won four out of the total six medals at the 2012 Olympics and one of the two medals at the 2016 Olympics.According to the state government, the tableau will depict the country’s performance in sports and the small state’s achievements too.
