Alan Shearer believes that Manchester United's winner against West Ham should have been disallowed for offside.

A cagey match at Old Trafford was decided in stoppage time when Edinson Cavani's low cross was turned in by Marcus Rashford at the back post to seal a crucial 1-0 win.

While the Stretford End erupted and United fans began celebrating, VAR was checking if Cavani was offside when he was thread through by Anthony Martial.

The check however saw the on-field decision stand and that was enough for United to secure the victory which saw them move into the top four.

Newcastle and England legend Shearer was covering the game for BBC Radio 5 Live.

"All four of us in the office thought it was going to be given offside. In the image we saw that was frozen, Edinson Cavani looked offside," he said post-match.

"It will be tough to take for West Ham when you have worked so hard and fought so hard like they did. To lose it in that fashion, it is hard to take."

"It's not the first and it won't be the last time that Manchester United will do that. They have done it so many times before," Shearer added.

"They have obviously got quality in forward positions so the guys they bring on will make a difference."

Ralf Rangnick has been praised by many for his substitutions against West Ham with all three of them playing a part in the winning goal.
