BIHARSHARIF : After evading arrest for over a week, the main accused in Nalanda hooch tragedy were arrested from different localities under Sohsarai police station area late Saturday night.
Nalanda SP Ashok Mishra told the media on Sunday that kingpin Sunita Devi alias Lambki alias Madam, wife of Gautam Prasad, her son Suraj Kumar and Cintu Kumar alias Cintu Ram, son of Sunil Kumar of Chhoti Pahadi were arrested by the SIT.
The others arrested included Meena Devi alias Budhiya, wife of Lala Paswan, Dimple Kumar, son of Krishna Kant Chaudhary, both of Chhoti Pahadi, Santosh Chaudhary, son of Mahesh Choudhary of Mansur Nagar and Saurabh Kumar of Badi Pahadi. Mishra said 6 FIRs were lodged in this connection and six accused were arrested earlier.
At least 11 residents of Chhoti Pahadi and 2 from Parbhu Bigha village died on January 15-16 after allegedly consuming spurious liquor on January 14. Sunita and others were accused of selling the poisonous liquor.
At least three persons lost their eyesight after consuming spurious liquor.Police had frozen the Indian Bank account of Sunita soon after a local court issued notices for the attachment of properties of nine accused.
In the raids conducted, excise department personnel seized 1440 litres of IMFL from a poultry farm at Nansut Bigha village under Chhabilapur police station area in the district. The market value of the seized liquor was estimated to be over Rs19 lakh. An FIR was lodged against its owner Tunni Yadav, who was absconding.
Mishra said more than 150 liquor smugglers have been arrested in the district since January 15.
