Covid cases up in Nagpur, Akola; down in other districts

NAGPUR: Cases in Nagpur increased even though nine other districts of Vidarbha reported minor to major drop in fresh infections on Sunday. A day ago, Nagpur had recorded a sharp fall of 700 cases while other districts continued to spike. Cases came down to 469 from 790 in Chandrapur, while Gondia’s count had a small difference of around 30 cases.
Except Nagpur and Akola, all other districts had fewer cases in the day than Saturday.Nagpur’s count rose by over 600, while it was around 90 cases more for Akola.
Overall, 76 Covid deaths have so far been reported in January. Though the number of tests fell, cases too dropped in nine districts.
A slight increase was reported in the daily caseload, while 11 more patients succumbed to Covid in three districts on Sunday. The number of recoveries too continued to go up. As many as 8,511 cases and 3,852 recoveries were recorded in the region.
This was the second day this month when Covid toll was in double digits.
In Nagpur, the number of new cases increased by 632, but was still less than Friday’s 4,763. Recoveries were steadily rising in the district and touched 2,235 on Sunday. The day’s toll included seven from the city and two from other districts. The district performed 13,333 tests, which were more than a day before.
Wardha: With 543 samples positive out of 1,333 tests on Sunday, the caseload went to 53,639. The district also recorded 61 recoveries, taking the total to 49,323, leaving 2,926 patients under treatment.
Amravati: A spike of 565 new cases from the 1,832 samples tested took the district's caseload to 1,01,045 on Sunday. The 247 recoveries took the total to 96,297 for a recovery rate of 95.3%.
Yavatmal: The district reported 282 new Covid patients and no deaths in the last 24 hours, keeping the toll unchanged at 1,789. Currently there are 1,656 patients under treatment, of whom 66 are in hospital isolation and 1,590 are in home quarantine.
Chandrapur: The district witnessed a spike of 469 cases against 1,875 samples on Sunday. There were 268 recoveries and one death reported during the day.
Washim: The district reported 169 Covid cases and 80 recoveries, taking the number of patients under treatment to 922.
Bhandara: The district conducted over 2,899 tests and found 472 new Covid cases while 49 recovered, leaving 2,186 patients under treatment.
Gondia: The district found 315 Covid cases. Over 1,501 patients are under treatment, while 1,133 tests were done and 61 patients recovered.
Akola: The district reported 352 recovered patients and 320 new cases. The active cases are 1,261.
Gadchiroli: The district recorded one Covid death, 374 new cases and 155 recoveries. This leaves 1471 patients under treatment.
Buldhana: The district has 2,341 active cases after 305 new cases were recorded. It performed 1,232 tests.
