A further 6,934 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland as the number of people with the disease in the nation's hospitals continues to fall.

Data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland show there are currently 1,435 patients with Covid in Scottish hospitals, which is down 76 from Friday.

There are 38 people being treated with the disease in ICUs – a drop of five over the same period.

However, the Scottish Government confirmed: "NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde did not submit data in time for this update; figures from Friday have been carried forward for this board.

"Please note that on Saturday, January 22, we incorrectly reported that there were 16 patients in ICU with recently confirmed Covid-19 – we should have reported that there were 42 patients in ICU with recently confirmed Covid-19, and we apologise for this error."

No new Covid deaths have been recorded within the last 24 hours meaning Scotland's death toll remains at 10,198.

However, 12,675 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, January 16 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.
