Thane: Man loses Rs 6 lakh in sextortion on dating app

THANE: A 36-year-old furniture contractor from Bhayander — married with kids — fell prey to an extortion racket on a dating app and lost Rs 6.3 lakh after the accused assaulted and threatened him.
Between June and July 10, 2021, the accused — who identified herself as Nisha — befriended him on the app. She invited him for a date in Thane city. She took him to a private residence, luring him with the promise of sex.Once there, however, her accomplices thrashed him black and blue and demanded Rs 10 lakh if he didn’t want to be defamed. “The accused snatched his and his wife’s credit cards and withdrew Rs 6.3 lakh. They also deleted all chats between the victim and accused to erase the evidence,” said an officer with the Shree Nagar police. The cops have registered na case against seven persons.
