LUCKNOW: Covid-19 claimed another life on Monday, taking the third wave toll to 10.
At least 1,818 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, while 1,950 patients recovered in the same period.
Fresh cases took the tally of the third wave that started on December 22 to 39,256. Of these 22,027 patients have recovered and active cases as of Monday evening were 17,229.
Overall, 2.7 lakh infections have been reported in the pandemic in the past 22 months.
According to health officials, the casualty reported on Monday was of a 71-year-old man who died due to multi-organ failure triggered by the Covid-19. He died at a private hospital in Niralanagar.
District Covid surveillance officer Dr Milind Vardhan said the patient was admitted to the hospital with end-stage liver disease following abdominal pain and swollen limbs on Sunday.
“In the routine test before admission he tested positive for Covod-19. His condition kept worsening and despite all efforts, doctors could not save him,” he added.
Meanwhile, fresh cases included 21 healthcare workers and six pregnant women.
Overall, 563 new cases were of those who came in contact with the patients tested positive earlier, while 372 patients got themselves tested after developing influenza-like symptoms.
“Only 32 patients of the total reported in the past 24 hours were hospitalised as they had moderate symptoms. Rest are in home isolation,” said Dr Vardhan.
