PATNA: The state health department suffered another setback when a video of an altercation between an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) and an accredited social health activist (Asha) went viral on social media. The incident occurred at the Lakhimpur referral hospital in Jamui district.
The video depicts the two women transforming the health centre into a battleground, complete with slippers and legs used to strike each other and hair pulling.
While a few people stand by silently as the heinous incident unfolds, a man can be seen attempting to separate the two by stepping in between them.
According to a media report, the Asha approached the ANM to administer the BCG vaccine to a newborn child. However, the latter demanded Rs 500 to complete this task. The two began their altercation with a heated argument that escalated into physical assault.
Pratyaya Amrit, the additional chief secretary of the health department, described the incident as “unbecoming of a public servant”.
