Drastic fall of over 2k Covid cases as testing goes down

Nagpur: The daily Covid-19 cases in Vidarbha on Monday came down by a whopping 2,059 as compared to Sunday, probably due to a drop in testing. As government swab collection centres remained closed on Sunday, 18,217 tests, 3,256 less than a day before, were performed in the region which reported 6,452 cases on Monday.
The number of tests and new cases have often dropped on Mondays but this time the difference has been significant.In the three Mondays before this week, cases had dropped between 18 and over 500 on two occasions but had increased on January 3.
Barring Chandrapur, daily caseload fell in the remaining 10 district of Vidarbha.
Recoveries continued to steadily rise as 3,959 were discharged on Monday. However, again the toll was in double digits at 10 with Nagpur, Akola, Gondia and Buldhana reporting casualties. Now, there are 49,839 active cases in the region.
In Nagpur, cases fell by 744 as compared to Sunday as the district recorded 3,921 new infections from 10,393 tests. All the six deaths in the district were reported from Nagpur city. Over 2,300 patients recovered during the day while 27,649 patients are under treatment.
Yavatmal: The district recorded 359 new cases and no deaths in the last 24 hours, keeping the toll unchanged at 1,789. Currently there are 1,897 patients under treatment, of whom 76 are in hospital. The district conducted 1,056 tests.
Of the 75,899 Covid patients so far, 72,213, including 118 on Monday, have recovered. The test positivity rate is 9.35%, death rate is 2.36% and daily positivity rate is 34%. The district has 1,692 beds for Covid patients.
Wardha: There were 66 new cases from 247 tests and 370 recoveries, taking the caseload to 53,705 and recoveries to 49,793 on Monday. The number of patients under treatment is now 2,622 and the toll stays at 1,330 as no new death due to coronavirus was reported on Monday.
Chandrapur: The surge of new cases continued in the district with 529 case detections as against 178 recoveries on Monday. No casualty was reported during the day. This left 2,926 patients under treatment. The Covid caseload has jumped to 94,836, while total recoveries now amount to 89,362. The toll is 1,548. A total of 8,34,570 samples have been tested so far and 7,38,568 of them have been found negative.
Amravati: The district reported 464 new cases on Monday which took the caseload to 1,01,509. Fifty-one recoveries took the total to 96,348. This left 3,559 patients under treatment.
Washim: The district reported 155 Covid cases and 51 recoveries taking the active case tally to 1,026\.
Bhandara: The district conducted over 583 tests and found 160 new cases while 225 patients recovered, leaving 2,121 under treatment.
Gondia: The district detected 150 positive cases after conducting 394 tests. Over 1,540 patients are active after 102 recoveries on Monday.
Akola: Two patients passed away in the district which reported 122 recoveries and 215 new cases. There are 2,595 active cases.
Gadchiroli: The district recorded 136 new cases and 168 recoveries while 1,439 patients are under treatment.
Buldhana: The district has 2,457 active cases after 297 new infections and 187 recoveries were reported on Monday. The district performed 879 tests.
