A school has been left "devastated" after the sudden deaths of two of its pupils in the same week.

Headteacher Jaideep Barot said teachers are meeting with pupils from Bristol Grammar School today following the tragedies.

The deaths are not related and the school has not named either pupil, calling for privacy from parents and pupils of the families involved, Bristol Live reported.

Staff gathered for a meeting on Monday to discuss how to break the sad news to pupils.

The first tragedy, believed to have been a boy who died after a long illness, was announced last Wednesday by Mr Barot in a letter to parents.

The headteacher then had to write another letter to parents on Saturday concerning the second devastating death.

The school says it is 'devastated' after the loss of the two pupils, who have not been named

A spokesperson for Bristol Grammar School said: “The school community is devastated at the loss of two of our pupils.

“We are focussed on supporting the families involved as well as our pupils, parents and staff at this tragic time.”

Teachers have been supporting pupils by sharing the names and details of support organisations who may be able to help with their grief.

Several people shared their condolences online.

One parent said: “Really sad...thinking of the families, friends and all the school community.”

Another added: “ So sad thinking of the families, RIP to the pupils who have passed.”

One more said: “I send love, hugs and prayers to the grieving families.”

The school, located near the University of Bristol, caters for more than 1,300 pupils aged four to 13.

It is consistently ranked as one of the best-performing independent schools across southwest England.

One organisation suggested by the school is the Young Minds website, which offers support and resources to help children and families through bereavement and trauma, which also has a parent phone line and a webchat.

They also shared the Child Bereavement UK website, and the local charity Winston’s Wish, which also deals with helping bereaved children.
