YAMUNANAGAR: Professor Om Prakash Gandhi, a social worker of Madhobas village in Radaur block of Yamunanagar district in Haryana, has been named for the Padma Shri award.
Gandhi worked for women empowerment. He completed his matriculation at Mukund Lal Secondary School in Radaur, BSc from Agra University and MSc in Physics from Meerut University.
Gandhi was first appointed lecturer at Rampur Maniharan Agriculture College in Saharanpur and after 20 years of service, he voluntarily resigned and adopted the field of social work.
In 1984, Gandhi formed a Kanya Vidya Pracharni Sabha, a society to spread awareness about education among girls at Khadri village of the district.
He later founded a Gurjar Kanya Vidya Mandir, a gurukul-type institution at Devdhar village in Yamunanagar district, which is now functioning as a degree college.
