PUNE: The Shivajinagar observatory, which covers the core area of the city, recorded 8.5°C on Tuesday — the lowest temperature of the season so far. Pune was the third coldest place in
Maharashtra after Nashik (6.3°C) and
Ahmednagar (7.9°C).
On Monday, the city’s mercury level had dropped to 10.4°C. Tuesday’s minimum was 2.6 °C below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Lohegaon recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7 °C, which was 2.3°C below normal.
The IMD on Sunday had forecast that the minimum temperature of North and
Madhya Maharashtra, which includes Pune district, would drop significantly in the coming days.
“The western disturbances over northern India have influenced weather conditions over all four meteorological regions of Maharashtra. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue for at least the next two days,” a senior
Met official said.
The day temperatures of Shivajinagar and Lohegaon, too, were below normal by 4°C. “The maximum temperatures dropped mainly due to partly cloudy conditions almost throughout the day,” said a Met official.
