Lucknow: Cop suffers gunshot injury from rifle, denies suicide bid

A 30-year-old police constable, deployed at the residence of a judge in Gautampalli police station area, suffered gunshot injuries in his throat under mysterious circumstances in the wee hours on Tuesday.

LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old police constable, deployed at the residence of a judge in Gautampalli police station area, suffered gunshot injuries in his throat under mysterious circumstances in the wee hours on Tuesday.
ACP Hazratganj Akhilesh Singh said the constable suffered injuries while he was fiddling with the magazine of the self loading rifle (SLR) allotted to him. He denied the incident as a suicide attempt.
“In his statement, the constable Manoj Kumar Maurya said he was fiddling with the weapon which went off and he suffered injuries,” the ACP said.
The constable is a recruit of the 2018 batch of PAC.
Maurya has been admitted to Trauma Centre of KGMU. “The incident was reported around 4am. His fellow constables rushed him to Civil Hospital but the doctors referred him to Trauma Centre,” the police said.
Police said they were investigating the case and his family has been informed of the incident and they are reaching Lucknow.
The doctors said his condition was serious.
