Salem man falls through ice while riding ATV on New Hampshire pond

While driving an ATV across a frozen New Hampshire pond on Sunday, 65-year-old John Tarquinio of Salem fell into the pond after his motor vehicle crashed and broke the ice beneath him, CBS Boston reported.

The news agency said the incident occurred at Wash Pond in Hampstead around 4 p.m.

Passerbys pulled Tarquinio out of the pond before New Hampshire officials responded to the scene. Tarquinio was reportedly not wearing any protective head or eye gear and suffered a head injury, he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Arlington also received a substantial report of people falling through ice on Sunday. The police department responded to three separate incidents of ice skaters falling through the ice on Spy Pond.

Arlington officials reminded people that the only safe ice to skate on is at a skating rink.
